Hi Coach,
this is K Arjun, long time no see. I am now 16 yrs old but I am just 167cm tall. Can I Bowl a good bouncer with this height.
Note: I do have a genuine Pace
Hi Arjun, there is no set height to be a fast bowler, 167 cm is fine for a 16 year old fast bowler. One of England’s great fast bowlers, Harold Larwood was only 5’7 inches.
The benefits of being a shorter a fast bowler is that your bouncer is flat and skiddy, bowl this straight at the batters head and it makes it difficult for the batter to judge the height of the bounce. Tall bowlers often balloon the ball over the batter’s head because of their extra height.
Because you’re shorter, the LBW and bowled dismissal is in the game more than for a taller bowler. Make sure you are bowling wicket to wicket and aim to be bowling the full, off stump line to make sure each delivery is asking a question of the batter.
If the wicket is very flat and it is easy for the batter to hit through the line of the ball, use subtle variation so the batter can’t set you up.
Best wishes Coach
