Waqar Younis: Classic Release and Follow Through
Hello Coach, I’m a 17 yr old fast bowler, I have good body alignment, a nice action, but I’m not completing my release and follow through. Can you make a suggestion to help with this?
Hi Varun, a simple method to improve ball release
and follow through is to set an aggressive intent at the top of your mark. The goal is to hit your length hard and have the ball going through and hitting the top of off stump, with its line continuing on to the keeper’s gloves.
Run in and attack the stumps, in the crease when you are releasing the ball drive through your action vigorously, your head drives down the wicket after the ball and your front arm and bowling hand sweep through. The bowling hand continues through past your right thigh and hip if you are right arm bowler.
Practice this a few times off a short run to get the feel for it before you do it off your long run.
Try this for a couple of weeks, it will make a big difference in pace and the ball holding its line through off stump to the keeper.
Best wishes Coach.
