Footwork Problems in Batting

by Chris

Hi Coach, when I bat and see a full delivery coming, I automatically get my front foot forward and slightly across. Doing this, I have realized I cannot play the flick shot because I already have moved my front foot across the line of the ball. This also happened to Shane Watson the English summer Ashes this year where he was prone to moving his foot across and being probe to miss the flick shot and get LBW.

How do I fix this habit?

Sincerely,

Chris

Dec 25, 2014 Cricket Batting Tips – Balance and Head Position
by: Coach Pybus Hi, you need to retrain the brain and body to undo this habit you have developed.

Practise hitting the ball through mid on to work on your balance, this is to get the body into consistently good positions and over a period of weeks this will become automatic.

Don’t look to hit the ball too square through the leg side, this will make you square up. When the ball comes into the pads play the leg glance and keep the ball on the ground.

Be patient with this and work on it consistently and you’ll get the results you desire.

Best wishes Coach
